The third of the operas Alan Laing and I staged together at the
Hans Heiling has remained my favourite. Some of the
others - Puccini, Chabrier and Delius -, featured heart-stoppingly
beautiful music, but this was the one in which the music meshed with
my own staging solutions to achieve something of which I felt proud.
(Actually, truth to tell, I'm, not exactly ashamed of the Chabrier or the
Delius. Maybe I'll upload them in due course.)
Ironically, coming as it did just before the time when we began to
video everything,
Heiling is  the one of which there is the least
substantial archive.
